License and Business Model Consulting

Organizations that want to engage in open source licensing of computer
code often ask themselves, "what license should I pick? there are so many different ones"
Wikipedia and Open Source Initiative list many options, and there is much discussion about the relative merits of each model.

CREDIL works with open source on daily basis, with a multitude of Sponsor Members who have varrying business needs. We have Maker Members that can provide consulting to help decide on what the right licensing model is.

As much as some people want to hear about "the best" license, licenses are only a tool towards a goal and it is often the case, that the goal must be carefully defined. As such licensing is not a decision to be made in isolation -- it needs to take a holistic view of the entire business.

One of the strengths of CREDIL's consulting members is that they can help with the processes of figuring out what the organizational goals are, and what community model (if any) will be. The legal fiddly-bits are just codification of these decisions.
